Christopher Bennett
Christopher Bennett chef and co-owner of Doug Arango's was born and raised
in New York City to a family boasting several generations of chefs
including a great grandfather who was involved in the genesis of The 21
Club. To become a chef, Bennett, who holds a degree in Ceramic
Engineering from Alfred University in New York, left behind a successful
career as A research engineer in the very competitive micro-electronics
industry.
Bennett is an avid Pilot who holds an instrument and glider rating. He is
also an avid fisherman and gardener.
In 1990 Bennett, his wife Julie, brother-in-law Robert and
sister-in-law Paula opened the first Doug Arango's in Palm Desert
California. The name is a tribute to Chris's cousin, a successful
Hollywood writer and producer who passed away in 1988 (he wrote for
amongst others Norman Lear during the
70's)In 1996 the restaurant re-located to larger quarters, on
fashionable El Paseo in Palm Desert. In the fall of 2003, after 13 years
in the desert, the decision was made to move back home to Los Angeles
where the third incarnation of Doug Arango's now resides. Doug Arango's
has a broad range of loyal customers including many prominent people in
the entertainment industry as well as a loyal west Hollywood neighborhood
following.
