Firefly Bistro Restaurant Review
Why aren’t more restaurants like Firefly — a smart, fun, romantic place where the
food is delicious, very fresh, modestly priced and prepared with an in-arguable
flair for flavor? Firefly is an intimate restaurant where all these qualities mix
together.
Its entryway is surrounded by arrangements of trees, gorgeous plants and flowers
which turns this place into a magical restaurant where you will have a great time.
It's beautiful interior peaks through the green to invite guests. The main dining
area is really a large tent decorated nicely with the requisite tasteful and casual
furnishings. It sure is an elegant and romantic environment. Firefly opened in July
2002 and has a neighborly warmth to its environment. At night sparkling lights set
the mood for a romantic and unforgettable dinner. In the summer, when it's warm,
the tent sides are rolled up to reveal ivy meandering up brick walls with nicely
trimmed shrubbery and delicate whispy flowers. They just added a very cozy bar which
is a truly success among the customers, the bar serves great wines, cocktails, beers,
and martinis.
We enjoyed such a delicious dinner that made our night truly remarkable, the service
was great, the night was beautiful and the drinks were impeccable. Their menu, also
changes constantly, which makes this place even more attractive.
As far as appetizers, we had the Smoked Tuna Melt Crostini, with
balck olives, basil, and brie, very good, and spicy.

The Grilled Mission Fig and Goat Cheese Tart with caramelized onions, honey, toasted
walnuts, and arugula, this dish I would say is part pastry, part dessert
and part salad, delicious and it is worth trying it without any doubt!

Dungness Crab Tostada with Mango Salsa, Pickled Red Union, Avocado
and Ancho Vinaigrette, a great appetizer and the Crab rocks!

Scallion-Chili Shrimp Eggrolls, with Orange-Ginger Sauce and
Caramelized Orange, one of my guest’s favorites, he loved it!

As far as salad we chose the Heirloom Tomato Salad with Grilled Asparagus,
Grille Romaine, Feta, Toasted Pistachios, Rosemary Oil, and Sherry vinegar
drizzle, I love tomatoes, and this was a great salad!

Their food is so fresh that unfortunately, they run out of their famous Sauteed
Petrale Sole, which we were told was great, and I wanted to try so bad… But I got
the Pecan Coated Catfish, over Sweet Potato-Pecan Hash, with Firefly Collard Greens
and my guest had the Blackened Double Cut Pork Chop, with Brown Sugar, Sweet Potatoes,
Grilled Corn, Apple Compote, and Apple Cidar-Sage Glaze, and loved these dishes
very tender and fresh with tons of flavors, the fish was very fresh and the pork
sweet and tender! Both great!

Desserts were fabulous as well, we tasted the amazing Grapefruit “KeyLime”
Pie, with Bruleed Ruby Red Grapefuit and Ginger-Grapefruit reduction,
and the Bittersweet Chocolate Liquid-Center Cake, with Pistachio
Ice Cream and Bing Cherry Compote, if you love sweets, these
delicious desserts will not disappointe you.

To end our night in high style we tasted their Dow’s 20 year Tawny Port,
very suave and with a delicious bouquet.

Firefly’s Paul Rosenbluh and Monique King - executive chefs/partners
reinterprets this sunny cuisine by using the best farmers-market ingredients,
assembling them with chefly skill, and illuminating the spirit of each
dish as if from within.
Pasadena is the place for beauty, sophistication and some of the nations best restaurants
and star chefs and Firefly is a restaurant that you can’t miss.
It is certainly worth it of a try!
