Social Hollywood Restaurant Review

Hollywood is full of great restaurants, but none of them manages to exude the
glamour, the fun, the class, the history, the elegance, the glitz, and the charm that Social Hollywood does. La Dolce Vita is back again and it located in the historic Hollywood Athletic Club on Sunset Boulevard, where the nightlife never ends,
where the biggest celebrities in the world will party.

Social Hollywood opened its doors to the public on May 2006; it provides an impeccable service, an unparalleled culinary adventure complete with innovative fusion menus in their global cuisine and unmatched Mark Zeff’s cutting-edge interior Moroccan design.

Social Hollywood brought back in town the good old Hollywood glamour, the
joy of life, it is not just a place to dine, it is a place to enjoy your entire night, with
your friends, or even alone, because in this paradise you will enjoy every minute
of it, this is the most fantastic place in Los Angeles.

I believe that is what Hollywood used to be years and years ago, and now
it is back! Thanks to talents such as Jeffrey Chodorow and Melissa Richardson, owners, we now finally have a masterpiece restaurant and lounge to enjoy from Monday thru Sunday.

With its Moroccan decoration and sophisticated ambience this place is ideal for romance and entertainment. You must stop first at the carved-wood antique Bar,
and enjoy a cocktail such as The Mojito, Pisco Sour, Bellini or Long Island Ice Tea. Their wine list is huge, and their bartender can make anything you want. The Bar is very spacious, with super comfortable leather seats, surrounded by charming chandeliers and typical Moroccan draperies, which complements its sexy ambiance. There is also a 50-foot glass wall projecting images such as wolves, owls,
psychedelic mushrooms, and nymphs in the nude, which I was told by
the manager that it will be also available to broadcast
Hollywood awards ceremonies.

At the bar we order the Laurent Perrier Brut, N.V., Reims, a great choice and my guest choose his favorite Long Island Ice Tea. The Bar also offers a selection of international small plates from Millionaires Devilled Eggs with truffles and caviar, Chicken Wing Lollipops buffalo style with intense blue cheese dressing, Mini Kobe Sliders with melting onions and gruyère cheese and Blue Cheese Croquetas with fig marmalade. The entire bar atmosphere is elegant, balanced, brilliant. Spellbinding.
The Bar at Social Hollywood is open from 6PM until 2AM nightly.

For dinner, you will move towards the grand dining called Moroccan Room, which is one of comfortable dining rooms I have been. The decoration is simply stunning, charming, reflecting history, mystery and passion.

The predominant colors are red, brown and green. The reclining wood dining room chairs are so comfortable that you just don’t want to leave, it makes your dining experience very comfortable.

The service is impeccable, much of the staff is helpful and well informed. They offer helpful choices and selections if it is your first time, or if you're just trying to decide.

Chef Joe Ojeda created an impressive and diverse menu that will please anyone who enjoys eating well. You can’t go wrong with anything you order, because it will be so stunningly diverse and the quality of the food is unmistakable fresh every single day.

As far as wine, I order the Chardonnay, Hartford, 2004 from Sonoma Coast, California, unmistakable quality, exceptionally crafted, as I say: magic in a bottle!
The wine program at Social Hollywood focuses in the vast assorted regions of the international wine community, while not neglecting the small boutique vineyards of our own California wine making artisans. From the Leeuwin Estate Chardonnay from Margaret River in Australia, to the family owned Whetstone Wine Cellars on the Sonoma Coast, each selection from the list has been chosen with great care in
order to offer guests a unique and celebratory dining experience.

As always, I ask our waitress what were her appetizer ‘ideas, so she told us to start
with the Watercress Salad with tarragon, goat cheese, sautéed shallots and grapes, simple, fresh and delicious.

The next one was the astonishing fabulous, the Lobster Bisque En Croûte, full of lobster knuckles and Jerez espuma, this dish’s taste was simply the best, surprisingly light and with lots of delicious large pieces of lobster inside, you can’t help but love it, it was accompanied by a mini cup of light cream so you just crash the en croute
dough and pour this cream inside, it gives this dish such a new dimension, it is
just pure paradise. I can’t describe how delicious this is. You must try this one,
if you are a lobster lover.

When the Seared Diver Scallops over rabo encendido with mojo de ajo arrived I already knew that this was going to be the most tasty Scallops we ever had and I was right, the rabo encendido is a very tender shredded meat cooked to perfection which gives the Scallops such a unique texture in tasting.

Our final appetizer was the Crab Cake with Moroccan aioli, avocado and
gazpacho consommé shooter, this dish Rocks! The crab cake is huge, enough
to be shared in 2 and the flavor is out of this world, and what truly complements
and makes this such a great appetizer is that consommé’ shooter that comes
along with it. I love every bite of it!

At this point my expectations for our fabulous entrées were certainly rising, the smell that comes from the kitchen has the capability of perfuming the entire ambiance. I could not wait to try our 3 next courses; the special of the night was the Lobster Risotto, then we had the Butterfish Tagine, ragout of shellfish, tomatoes, potatoes, olives and roasted peppers, a very light fish, cooked perfectly, with large pieces of shrimp, scallops and shellfish on a bed of cuscus. You can’t go wrong, it is huge and you can easily share this one.

Then to finalize our superb meal, my guest wanted to try the Grilled Tenderloin with celery-truffle gratin, foie gras nage and gremolata, our waitress said that it was a great choice, we should not miss it, she was right on, it does not get better than this, it was certainly the best steak you can ever taste. Just can’t describe how tender and juice this meat is, along with the potatoes gratin with truffles, what a combo, it makes it the winner of the night!

Pastry Chef Sam Christopher is a master in desserts. His desserts creations will
make you go directly to heaven, nothing that I tasted in the past, can truly be
similar at his sweet temptations.

Creamy Couscous Pudding, with Cinnamon Crisps

Among 9 choices, of the most amazing and unique desserts, we choose the Creamy Couscous Pudding, with cinnamon crisps and crystallized ginger and the Pomegranate and Vanilla Espuma Parfait; both were an Opera D’arte, deliciously done and the presentation was unique.

And to seal our Moroccan night dinner with golden keys, we could not go without sampling their Dessert Drinks; the Lillypilly “Noble Blend”, 2002 Stickies, I describe this as a God’s Nectar, and the Taylor Vintage Port, 1985.

Dinner was enchanting, but we had a mission to accomplish to get to know the entire place, so we were invited for a special Vip tour. Basically while main floor is open to the public, Social Hollywood will extend invitation-only memberships for its second floor, Level II, where the city’s entertainment elite once cavorted in high style. Ascending the main staircase, Members can mingle in the upstairs bar alcove, centrally located in a hallway of demure taupe and beige. Across from the bar alcove is Level II’s two Game Rooms, masculine in their dark, wood-paneled tones and canary-hued lighting. Here guests can enjoy billiards, board games and, with their large plasma screens, video games such as Xbox and Playstation titles. Next to the Game Rooms is the aptly named Green Room, an immersive-colored chamber, featuring comfortable seating, a stone fireplace and ironwork balcony.

The Green Room opens to an intimate private dining chamber, ideal for
private events, whether used separately or together.

Opposite the Green Room, is the Velvet Room, distinguished by rich chocolate color velvet drapery and vintage furniture. The Velvet Room is also available as a private dining room which may be used for cocktails, meals or private meetings. It offers plasma TV connections, Internet connections, DJ plug-ins and music capabilities,
such as iPod interface. There is also the Screening Room, which is available
for private screenings.

Social Hollywood is a sophisticated, elegant and warm environment that has without any doubt the best location, food and service that has all the right elements to entertain the Hollywood elite, it is simply fantastic!
