Mozambique Steak House Restaurant Review
Mozambique Restaurant and Coastal Lounge brings the tastes and smells from
the beaches of Mozambique to Laguna Beach, creating an unforgettable
experience that is exotic and yet close to heart and home.
So whether you are coming for Peri-Peri Prawns on the patio, or an unforgettable
steak in one of our various dining rooms, you will always leave with the same
feeling , wanting to come back soon with family and friends.
It’s exotic, exciting, and adventurous. It’s also warm, relaxing and friendly. Portuguese
sailors discovered Mozambique on one of the many stops they made to replenish supplies
while on their way to the spice-rich countries in the East and Far
East. Its coastline is rich in tropical fruits, seafood and other staples
needed for the long days and nights at sea... and it was here that
they discovered a little known spice called Peri-Peri.
Jungle Juice Ice Tea
Cadillac Margarita
This unique spice is still used today in the country’s colorful seaside restaurants-like
Reliquias, Miramar, Ferroviaro and Costa del Sol , where scores of locals
and visitors line up for mouth-watering Peri-Peri chicken and giant
grilled Peri-Peri prawns best enjoyed with a cold lager.
You can always find LIVE BANDS anywhere from Classic Rock, Motown,
Funk, & Rock Alternative coming to you LIVE and direct! Sometimes The
Rolling Stones musicians rock the stage too! Every month we feature
a National act like Multi - Platinum Recording artists, "Just Jinjer".
Always Packed! Only a $5 cover* 21 & over only.
Sampler Plate with Grilled Prawns, Chicken Pop and Farmer Sausage
Our hostess escorted us through the restaurant to our corner table; the décor
is gorgeous, with a fireplace in the back of the dining room. We were
surrounded by excited diners and waiters who were eager
to help with menu selections and wine pairings.
Wok-Charred Ahi Tuna
First, our waiter brought us two of their special starter plates: The Wok-Charred
Ahi Tuna and the Sampler Plate, that consist of Grilled Prawns, Chicken Pop, Farmer
Sausage, Caramelized Onions, with a Peri-Peri sauce. The soft, tender prawns
and chicken practically melted in our mouths, and were enhanced by the Peri-Peri
sauce in which they were swimming. It has been a long time since I've been this
excited about starter plates and this one was truly amazing. The flavors reminded
both my dining companion and me of past comforts, while the refreshing
caramelized onions added a hint of the exotic. Starting with the ahi, we
were awed by the silky texture of the tuna, accented by the
peppery, crunchy crust, we loved it!
Mediterranean Salad
We also tried one of their delicious salad; the Mediterranean Salad, with Romaine,
Artichoke hearts, Feta cheese, Calamata olives, hard boiled egg, pickled onions,
tomatoes on a Grecian dressing. Still, the most brilliant part of the plate was
the addition of the Grecian dressing, offering such a cleansing of the palate
that the feta cheese could be experienced like anew every time. We
enjoyed a glass of Dr. Hyden twenty-year Riesling with the plate,
its sweet, smooth taste helping to further balance the course.
Moroccan Style Chilean Sea Bass
While eagerly anticipating our entrees. My Moroccan Style Chilean Sea Bass was charmingly
presented alongside with Moroccan seasonings, artichoke, fennel, tomatoes, and pesto
mashed potatoes filling in the blanks on the plate. The
range of smells from oceanic to earthy suggested great treats to come.
Macaroni & Cheese
A surprising favorite of the evening came in the form of the Macaroni & Cheese
that proved incomparable to any other we had ever experienced. The Erath
Pinot Noir proved to be an excellent pairing: lighter than a more traditional
pinot, it accentuated the fish's meatiness without overpowering it.
Double Cut Colorado Lamb Chops
To continue our indulgence, the Double Cut Colorado Lamb Chops arrived with
a side of Yukon Gold mashed potatoes, sautéed asparagus and Mozambique
Spice Company steak sauce. The crisp, flaky outer edges of the lamb enhanced
its texture. It was simply done yet cooked exquisitely to medium doneness, exemplifying
Chef's idea that, it's best to let the meat itself do the majority
of the work and accentuate its greatness. It was a welcomed treat that
added a new dimension of opulence to this very traditional dish.
Center-Cut Filet Mignon
Also, we tried the Center-Cut filet Mignon that was also deliciously prepared and
in
terms of taste and presentation it deservers another 10 plus! Dessert snuck up on
us.
We were presented with a Butter Pudim and a Bread Pudim, we loved them all.
We enjoyed a Porto wine with our dessert duo which was chilled and not overly
sweet. This course was a delightful conclusion to an incomparable meal.

Whether it is in the contrast of the retro, woodsy décor of the interior with the
vibrant and modern city view, or the various dishes' combinations of textures, shapes,
and flavors, Mozambique is truly a study in balance. Chef Helena provides customers
with the opportunity to enjoy a chic city view while enjoying more natural, rustic
cuisine that excite all the senses in their complimentary tastes and engaging presentation;
she presents customers with a feeling of nostalgia while
adding in a touch of the exotic, all culminating to make
Mozambique a scintillating culinary getaway.
